Counseling for Texas
Musicians & Music Educators
with Kristin Behlmann, MA, LPC ( TX #87103)
You hold yourself to high standards and manage a great deal of responsibility.
Over time, that effort can feel exhausting or leave you feeling tense, irritable, or disconnected from the parts of your life that matter to you.
What if you didn’t have to navigate all of this on your own?
What working together looks like
Counseling is collaborative and responsive to the realities of demanding professional and creative work. We focus on how stress and pressure show up over time, not just in isolated moments, with attention to emotional and behavioral patterns that shape daily life.
You don’t need to have the right words or a clear plan before starting. We move at a pace that respects how much you’ve been carrying while helping you find steadier, more sustainable ways forward.
In our work together, we might:
Notice patterns that keep you in “push through” mode
Build skills to respond to stress with more steadiness and choice
Work with emotional and physical stress responses as they arise
Develop strategies that support both your musical work and your life outside of it
My approach draws from ACT, CBT, and sport and performance psychology to support understanding what’s happening and building changes that last.
What We Can Work On
Counseling may help when the stress of music and teaching starts to feel like:
Constant overwhelm that doesn’t let up
Frequent frustration or irritability with others
Burnout, fatigue, and loss of joy
Anxiety that shows up in or out of performances
Difficulty regulating emotions and energy day-to-day
Life and career transitions (identity shifts, next steps)
Counseling focuses on how these experiences affect your overall well-being,
not just what happens on stage or in the classroom.
Counseling vs Performance Coaching
While both counseling and performance coaching support musicians, they serve different purposes.
Counseling focuses on emotional health, stress patterns, and challenges that affect daily life and relationships. It is a clinical service and may involve diagnosis and treatment of mental health concerns.
Performance Coaching is educational and skills-focused. It addresses preparation, focus, confidence, and mindset for specific musical goals and high-pressure moments.
If you are unsure which service is the best fit, we can talk through that during a consultation.
Getting Started
Reach Out
Schedule a free 15-minute consultation to connect and talk through what’s bringing you here. This is a low-pressure conversation to see whether counseling feels like the right fit.
First Session
If we move forward, we’ll begin with a 50-minute session focused on understanding your experience, what you’ve tried, and what feels most challenging right now. There’s no agenda to perform or explain things “correctly.”
Ongoing Support
From there, we work together to address patterns that keep stress and overwhelm in place. Sessions are collaborative and paced to support steadiness, clarity, and sustainable change over time.
